How to create a survey

Modified on Mon, 10 Jul, 2023 at 1:41 PM

When you receive your login information from our OW Survey support team, you will be able to start programming your first questionnaire on the platform.

Both types of access - Standard and Admin - can create surveys. However, standard access will only allow you to view and edit the questionnaires you created. Admin access, on the other hand, gives you the ability to view and edit any questionnaire.

INDEX

You can begin programming a survey in one of three ways: uploading a file, selecting a template, or creating question by question.

Step 1: choose how to start programming

  • Uploading a file: The file must be in the following formats: .doc or .txt. We recommend removing all tables from your file before sending it, as the system only recognizes tables as matrix-type questions. From here, you will have access to our “auto-tag” tool. See how to use it here
  • Templates: Only available in Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish. Select the template you wish to use and click “apply”. You can edit these templates, but we strongly recommend following their structure to create an effective survey.
TIP: add question groups before or after template questions to collect more insights from your questionnaire.
  • Create New: You will be redirected to the Scheme Suggester page, where you can add all survey questions, one by one, as well as the answer options for each of them.

Step 2: choose a name for your survey

We recommend you use different names for each of your questionnaires and use keywords to make them easier to identify later. For example, if you were to run the same survey in different countries, we suggest adding the country name to each separate survey.

Step 3: choose the language of your survey

The language you choose will impact respondents’ experience, as all survey instructions will be shown in that language.

Step 4: choose data collection method

Be careful! Each collection method has some restrictions. For example, CAWI does not allow the same person/respondent to access a survey more than once.

  • CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interviewing): responses collected from an online source – panels, e-mails, websites, etc.

When choosing this collection method, remember that we will only allow each respondent to answer the questionnaire once. We block duplicate responses to guarantee sample quality by saving cookies and IPs.

  • CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing)responses collected via telephone interviews.

This collection method allows you to generate one link per interviewer/agent, allowing them to collect as many responses as possible with that link. Because this type of survey requires an internet connection to save data, offline phone interviews are not supported.

  • CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing): an interviewer collects responses in person

This data collection option also lets you generate one link per agent, allowing you to track their location and performance through our reporting tool. This is also the only type of survey that will enable you to collect offline responses using our app. You can learn more about the CAPI process in this article
